Removed Old Commercial Flooring?

I am renting a store front and we did some demoltion and remodeling? My question is when we removed the old carpet there was a strange looking type o floor under it I am not sure if this was layed to level the floor. and under that was some black tar looking adhesive. It did ot appear to be vinal flooring it was more like a thick dark brown wood? my question is if this normal commercial flooring our should I be concerned that we may have come in contact with asbestos?
