Swollen ears this afternoon..... ?

Ok so went outside a lot today. (around trees and lots of dirt and stuff) I have done this before but it was a little chillier today.... I was also wearing large hoop earrings, but I always wear those and they haven't affected me in any way before. And when I came back I noticed my ears were large, swollen, red, warm, hard, and numb. But they don't hurt or itch though. It doesn't bug me much, but I would like to know the possible cause of this. Any guesses, reasons or solutions?
