Is there really a point to celebrating a day from a country that almost got wiped by a potato famine?

St. Patty's day has food, green beer....cabbage and beef briskett or cabbage and hash. And all of those foods give gift, I don't know about anyone else but all the above give me gas. Which is the gift that keeps on giving.
