I've just been put on the generic Ambien (Zolpidem Tartrate) 5mg. What can I expect?

I used to take Remeron 30mg to sleep but because it's not a sedative it's only a anti psychotic that has the side effect of sleepiness and it causes weight gain (I had gastric byp surgery) I chose to stop taking and instead asked for Ambien. I read the pamphlet and spoke to my doctor but I want to know from fellow users what can I expect?
