Any hiking advice you can give me?

Well im going to bring rations, water, hammock, sleepbag, a tarp, extra cloths for cold and hot temperatures, also my hiking boots. Any advice from experienced hikers who can give some well needed info on hiking trails?? such as dealing with wild animals and stuff like that.
